Which Flooring Is Right for You?

There are various things which need to be considered when selecting what type of

href="http://www.yourfloors.co.uk">flooring to install. Getting new flooring fitted in your home

can breathe new life into it and can be a great way to improve your living environment. It may not

be as expensive as you think either.

An important factor when choosing flooring is how that particular room will be used. Flooring which

is suitable for the dining room may not be appropriate for the bathroom or kitchen for example. Some

of the most widely used types of flooring are carpet, vinyl, wood, and laminate.

Laminate flooring can be a fantastic alternative to wooden flooring if you are looking to achieve a

wood effect floor at a lower cost. Laminate flooring is made from a sheet of MDF with a wood-effect

plastic surface attached to it. One pitfall of laminate flooring is that whilst it is resistant to

sctratches once it is scratched it is extremely difficult to repair. Apart from that it can still be

an ideal choice for a kitchen, where the plastic coating provides an easy to wipe clean surface.

Conversely solid wood flooring would not be advisable in a bathroom, or in fact any room which is

likely to get very humid and wet. Some woods such as beech are particularly vulnerable to

moisture.

If you are looking to fit a wooden floor, its important you have the right surface to fit it on.

Ideally your existing floor needs to be flat, and dry. There are options however to counter uneven

flooring problems, such as laying ply throughout, or employing an underlay to create a floating

floor.

More often than not laminate flooring is sold as a product you can assemble without help which is a

great way of keeping costs down. Solid wood flooring requires a higher degree of DIY competence, so

it can sometimes be advisable to get solid wooden floors fitted professionally which can add

substantially to the cost.

Something many people do not realise when they measure their room to work out how much flooring they

will need ” is that it is crucial to include a 10mm gap around the edge of the room for the wooden

flooring to expand and contract.

As a fundamental part of any interior design strategy, it is crucial to select the correct flooring.

Whilst wooden or laminate floors can be ideal ” often for a more chic minimalist look; carpet can be

a better option if you are trying to achieve a more traditional home feel. The important thing is

you take into account the various factors you need to consider before ordering new flooring.

Summer Olympics 2008 cities

Summer Olympics 2008, China

China will host the prestigious Summer Olympics in 2008. Already, Olympics fever has gripped China and we’ll probaby see another exciting Olympics in 2008. The two cities that will host the Olympics in China are Beijing, which is the nations capital and Qingdao, a seaside city in the province of Shandong, in north-east China. Let’s get to know these two Olympics cities better.

Beijing

Beijing is the capital for China. It was also a capital for the last two monarchies that ruled China before being overthrown by Sun Yat Sun in 1911 and has been the capital since Mao Tse Tung declared China a People’s Republic in 1949.

Beijing is located in northern China, close to Tianjin Municipality and partially surrounded by Hebei Province. The city covers an area of more than 16,800 square kilometers (6,487 square miles) and has a population of 13.82 million people. Beijing is at its best in late spring and autumn, particularly during the months of May, September, and October when people can enjoy bright sunshine and blue skies.

As the capital of the People’s Republic of China, Beijing is the nation’s political, economic, cultural and educational center as well as being the China’s most important center for international trade and communications. It has been the heart and soul of politics and society throughout its long history and consequently there is an unparalleled wealth of discovery to delight and intrigue travelers as they explore Beijing’s ancient past and enjoy its exciting modern development.

Beijing is also the tourist capital of China, boasting of favourite tourist sites such as :

Great Wall of China

Beijing will also be the host for the Summer Olympics in 2008. Already, Olympics fever has gripped the city as construction of new buildings, hotels and stadiums, sprucing of tourist facilities, cleaning up of air and water pollution takes on a fervent pace.

Qingdao

Qingdao is a bustling city located in Shandong province, in the North East of China. Qingdao will be the site for sailing events for the Summer Olympics as Beijing is not by the sea.

Qingdao city lies on undulating hills with luxuriantly green trees and buildings noted for their attractive architectural styles. The red colour of the tiled roves, green colour of the trees thills and blue of the sea contrast beautifully. All this along with its beautiful climate, make the city well-known as a summer and health resort.

The city occupies an area of 10 654 km2. The city is located in flatlands, with mountains spurring up nearby. The highest elevation in the area is 1133 m above sea level. The city has a 730.64-kilometer coastline. Five significant rivers that flow for more than 50 km can be found in the region.

Qingdao is estimated to be the home for more than 7 million inhabitants, of which around 2.6 million is residing in the Qingdao urban area.

Qingdao enjoys mild summers and relatively warm winters, with the average July temperature at 23.8C and the average January temperature at -0.7C. The city gets most rain in June and July, at an average of 150 mm.

Qingdao has very strong German influence in the 19th century and many German influenced buildings can still be seen. In fact, Qingdao beer is famous throughout the world, and every year, hundreds of thousands of people, both local and overseas gather in Qingdao for the annual Beer festival.

Qingdao attracts many tourists due to its seaside setting and excellent weather. Parks, beaches and sculpture — as well as some unique architecture — line the shore. Qingdao’s major attractions include:

Qingdao has such nice weather and scenary that the China ruling party has a large rest and retirement santuary in Qingdao for it’s retired cadres.

Bunker Basics – guaranteed to get you ‘off the beach’!

Most high handicap golfers get a real sweat on when they go into the bunker, even though getting out is basically a very easy shot. One main thing to remember is that you’re not actually going to hit the golf ball clean. You’re not actually going to make contact with the golf ball itself with the club. The sand is actually going to act as a cushion between the club head and the ball when you hit the shot out.

Most people when they go in a bunker and they don’t have a good bunker technique are trying to pick the ball off the top of the sand with a chip shot action as though they’re on the grass. Now the problem with that is that the grass is very firm so you’re not going to dig in with the club. This means you can quite easily then hit the golf ball first and get a decent strike out of it, but most people tend to just duff it in front of themselves when they try this out of sand, because the sand is fluffy and it breaks up.

So what you’ve got to remember is that you’re actually going to take out the same amount from underneath the ball. If you put, let’s say two five dollar notes side by side, that’s the amount of sand you’re going to take out of the bunker either side of the ball as you hit underneath it.

When you swing the golf club one of the things you’ve got to think about is your swing. It needs to be a lot longer and have a better tempo than with a chip shot, because you’ve got to allow for the sand which you’re going to take out with your shot. You must allow for that sand to actually take the power out of the shot. If you did a golf swing when chipping from just off the green and you used a bunker swing, you’d hit the ball about three or four times too far, but in a bunker it wouldn’t be the same. You’re just using the power of the swing and the sand to take the power out of the shot.

Save Body Sway for the Dance Floor, Not Your Golf Swing

Body motion in the swing is necessary, but too much of a good thing can wreak all kinds of havoc with your golf swing.

I received a question over the weekend from a BioForce Golf subscriber about “body motion” in the swing.

The question from our subscriber asked how not to fall into the trap of too much movement backwards during the golf swing.

What we are really talking about is weight transfer during the golf swing.

Too much weight transfer onto the back foot during the take-away and backswing causes difficulty in getting back to your front foot on the downswing.

This creates some difficulties in your timing during the golf swing.

Oftentimes, this type of swing fault is termed “body sway.”

So how do we fix this golf swing fault?

Let’s take a brief look at golf swing mechanics.

Optimal golf swing mechanics are both a rotational (rotating around a fixed spine angle) and linear (weight transfer backwards and forwards) movement.

It is the sequencing (proper order) and combination of these two biomechanical movements that develop the great foundation of your golf swing.

Amateurs often have difficulty performing these two biomechanical movements simultaneously and in the correct sequence.

Discussing “Body Sway” in Relation to Linear Weight Transfer of the Golf Swing

Amateurs often shift their weight too far onto their back foot. Once this occurs, they are never able to get their weight forward, causing them to “spin out” and leave the clubface open at impact.

A conversation I had with top teaching pro Rick Smith on body sway enlightened me on one of his teaching points: the weight transfer in the backswing cannot go past the inside arch of the back foot.

In order to limit your weight transfer in the swing to this position, you must “feel” it in your swing. You must be able to feel your weight on the inside of the back foot and not allow it to move any farther back.

If your weight transfer exceeds this position, your timing will be off, your golf swing mechanics will be flawed, and compensation of the downswing will occur.

Now knowing what we need to know about golf swing mechanics and the problems resulting from “body sway,” how do we go about fixing it?

The golf swing is one of the most intricate athletic movements performed in sports today.

It requires precision in every biomechanical movement involved in the swing, the correction sequencing of each movement, and the correct timing.

As a whole, the golf swing is a very difficult movement to perform.

Attempting to “fix” a swing fault when swinging the golf club at full tilt is almost impossible.

So what are you to do?

Simply, it is much easier to break down the golf swing into parts.

Working on pieces of the golf swing and then re-building the swing is the way to go. This is a much easier task to achieve.

Once you have broken down the golf swing into pieces, then you can focus upon the area of the golf swing that is giving you difficulty.

Fixing the area of the golf swing that is giving you problems can be addressed by implementing swing drills.

Swing drills introduce and re-enforce the proper swing mechanics into your body and allow you to eventually cure your swing fault.

This will eventually return you to a position where you can “feel” every position in the golf swing.

So, if you are struggling from “body sway” in the golf swing, break down the swing into parts and address the area of the golf swing that needs help through swing drills.

Choosing The Right Golf Shoes

I must admit…I have been playing golf for fifteen plus years and did not realize the importance of golf shoes.

Golf shoes, you might have heard, are a must for most golf courses. Though this may seem true–just look at the growing number of golfers who wear custom shoes–many golf courses in fact do not require special shoes for playing. Of course, every golfer has been to at least one golf course that specifies the type of golf shoe worn.

This is for great reason. The entire purpose of these golf shoes is more than to just make a fashion statement on the golf course. For golfers, they help keep their feet secure, allowing them to take advantage of leg power during a swing and preventing slips and falls. Plus the cleats are lightweight unlike your typical sneaker.

For the maintenance crews, golf cleats can represent a benefit, or a nightmare, for their golf course. Good golfers provide a bit of relief for the keepers of the green and the fairway, because good golfers wear non-cleat shoes. Yes, you heard that right. Good golfers wear either shoes that have soles that do not have spikes on them, or soles with a “suction cup” or subtle tread. These save the green from destruction.

There are so many different types of golf shoes to choose from. With all these options you should not have any problems locating the right shoe for you. They have sneakers, dress shoes, and even sandals! Try out several different kinds before purchasing. They can vary in price from $35 bucks about toward $150!

In conclusion you should wear golf shoes with the big golf cleats. During a dry day your chances of slipping are very slim. On rainy days have a spare set of cleats that have the big bulky cleats screwed into them if it makes you feel comfortable. Just by holding off during the dry days will shave strokes off your game and save our local greens.

Essential Trampoline Parts

The three main parts of a trampoline are the pads, mats and springs. These parts vary in size for each type and shape of trampoline. Most trampoline manufacturers and stores sell their parts. You can find parts suppliers on the Internet and locate a local store.

Trampoline pads are available in various shapes such as round, square, rectangular and octagonal. A good trampoline pad is shock absorbent, of high density, and made of closed-cell foam that will not absorb water or mildew, or lose shape. Check out the thickness, width and the quality of the material used in making the frame pad.

When choosing a trampoline mat, it is also important to examine the quality of the fabric mat. The fabric should be strong, with burst strengths of 800 pounds per square inch. A standard trampoline mat is sewn with 8 rows of heavy-duty UV-resistant thread, and uses galvanized triangular v-rings for long life.

Trampoline springs that are over-stretched, loose or have damaged hooks should be replaced. Examine the length because the longer the spring, better the bounce. See if they are likely to weaken, and stretch out of shape after use.

Trampoline springs are measured from hook to hook.

Salmon Fishing – Professional Tips

Salmon Fishing

General salmon information and fishing tips:

1. Generally, the best times of the day are during the times when there is low light and so too, on cloudy days. On bright and sunny days, salmon will usually collect and assemble deep in the holes.

2. Take note that salmon do not feed while in the river. When they do strike, it is a behavior that is learned. Salmons are known to be predatory and aggressive when in the lake, up until they go into the river.

3. Set the hook by yanking downstream with your rod three times. To get a better set, pulling on the line with your free hand can help. Sometimes, when you lift the rod straight up, it will pull the fly out of the mouth of the salmon.

4. In order for the hook to go through the thick jaws of the salmon, you should always sharpen your hooks.

5. Fishing with a partner can be enjoyable and at the same time help each other to spot a salmon. While one is fishing, the other can be high up on the other side of the bank observing the reaction of the salmon and where exactly they are. Polarized glasses are very helpful when doing this and would bring satisfying results.

6. Finding a good hole where there are many salmon inside and you can fish there for the whole day!

7. Your weight as well as the length of the tippet should be adjusted so that it matches the holes depth and the depth of the fish. Your weight should not drag, but should only touch the bottom every now and then. Note that a tippet that is three feet long will set the fly six inches up to two feet off the bottom.

8. By adding a foam indicator at the top of your fly, you can get your fly higher in the water column.

Fly fishing tips:

Chuck-n-duck is the most familiar and easiest, method in using a fly rod to fish for salmon.
